Indiana Politics Resource

State Courts / Judicial Branch

Welcome to the state judiciary unit of the Indiana Politics Resource. The purpose of this section of the resource is to enlighten students about the structure, functions and importance of the Indiana state court system. While this purpose is similar to that of most of the sections of this resource, the format for accomplishing that goal is markedly different.

To begin with, the structure of the Indiana judiciary is illustrated in a flow-chart to make it easier for users to grasp the connections between different parts of the system. There are special sections on juvenile justice and the controversy concerning judicial elections. There is also a section describing the history of the Indiana state court system. Finally, case studies have been included to test the user's comprehension of the Indiana judicial system. We hope that you find this unit a valuable resource for learning about Indiana's state judiciary.
